An unfit nerd’s guide to exercise

Why should you listen to me when it comes to exercise?

I’m not the fittest guy out there. I mean, I’m only okay. Make me run and I’ll run, ask me to do Hindu squats and I’ll do them.

But I don’t look the part of the sort of guy who’d normally write a book on exercise.

I don’t turn heads when I walk around shirtless.

So why should you listen to me?

Because I’m not claiming to be good at exercise – or to make you good at it, either. There are a thousand books on that topic out there already.

But let me ask you this:

What good is a thousand books on how to exercise… if you goof off instead of follow their advice?

That’s where I come in. I can teach you to love working out.

I used to hate exercise. It didn’t help that I was unfit. The idea of getting in shape appealed to me… but whenever I established a new routine, I’d struggle.

If I forced myself, I’d stick with it for a week – maybe even a few.

Then I’d get sick, get distracted, get busy.

I’d take a day off.

That’s turn into three.

Soon, it was as if I’d never had the habit at all. Getting back into it was just as hard as it had been.

Now, though?

Now, I legitimately crave it. A few hours before writing this, I’d had a long day spent writing, reading and negotiating with new people. It wasn’t tough, but it was tiring.

I hadn’t exercised all day. Instead of what would normally happen – me sitting down to do some writing, watch a little TV – I felt the need to move.

If the weather was better, I might have gone for a run.

Instead, I set a new personal best in bodyweight exercises.

That’s amazing to me. I never thought get to this point. At best, exercise was always something I ‘should’ do.

And after a long day, I could ‘get away with’ doing the bare minimum.

I’ve evolved – now, I want to work my body, get healthy and grow stronger.

It wasn’t a fluke. If I can change, so can you.

How?

With a few hypnotic routines to rewire how you think about exercise.
